Matthew
Moncrieff
Matt Moncrieff is a proud Yamatji man from Gwoonwardu (Carnarvon), Western Australia.
An electrifying storyteller, cultural leader, and culinary innovator reshaping how Australia experiences First Nations culture.
Matt first captured the nation’s attention as the first Indigenous contestant on My Kitchen Rules and became a viewer favourite and semi-finalist, but his impact has since expanded far beyond television.
Matt has become a powerful voice in the movement to reclaim and celebrate Indigenous food sovereignty. His groundbreaking national campaign calling for native ingredients to be stocked in major supermarkets sparked widespread conversation, attracted nearly 12,000 signatures, and propelled him into national and international media. The campaign earned him the prestigious Award for Excellence in Bushfoods and Botanicals at the Aboriginal Economic Development Forum, as well as a 2025 nomination for Community Citizen of the Year - recognition of his mission to champion Country, culture, and community.
Today, Matt travels across Australia delivering immersive cultural workshops that bring together bushfoods, heritage, environmental leadership, and the future of renewable energy through a First Nations lens.
Whether working with corporates, community groups, festivals, or schools, Matt blends knowledge with charisma, turning education into an experience that inspires genuine connection.
As an MC and host, Matt brings humour, heart, and authenticity to every stage. When he steps behind the decks as a DJ, he transforms the room, merging contemporary beats with cultural storytelling to create unforgettable energy.
Off the mic, Matt is also a writer and commentator, regularly contributing thought-provoking insights on Indigenous foodways, culture, sustainability, and identity across various media platforms.
More than a cook, Matt Moncrieff is a dynamic cultural advocate and multifaceted presenter using food, music, and story to spark change, deepen respect for Country, and bring people together.
