Jennifer
Robinson

“The international lawyer who specialises in breaking the silence.” ~The Sydney Morning Herald

Jennifer Robinson is an international human rights lawyer whose work sits at the intersection of law, media and power. A Rhodes Scholar from New South Wales, she has built a global career representing journalists, whistleblowers, artists and women in some of the most consequential legal battles of the past decade.

Her practice focuses on freedom of expression, defamation law and access to justice. She served for more than a decade as part of Julian Assange’s international legal team, working across multiple jurisdictions in proceedings that shaped global debate around press freedom and state power.

Jennifer has also been involved in high-profile defamation matters, including advising in the United Kingdom proceedings brought by Amber Heard. Through this work, she has been a prominent voice examining the chilling effect of defamation law and the structural barriers women face when speaking publicly about abuse and misconduct.

As an executive producer on the documentary Silenced, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and Jennifer explores the weaponisation of defamation laws in the post-#MeToo era. International press positioned her as a central legal voice in the film, addressing how litigation can be used to silence survivors and suppress public accountability.

“The documentary’s narrative is anchored by international human rights barrister Jennifer Robinson.” ~ Festival Review

Jennifer also appears on-screen in The Six Billion Dollar Man, the documentary examining the global legal and political battle surrounding Julian Assange. The film highlights the broader implications of the case for journalism, democracy and due process.

She is the co-author of How Many More Women? (published in the UK as Silenced Women: Why the Law Fails Women and How to Fight Back), a critically recognised book examining how legal systems can silence women and what reform requires. She is currently working on a further book exploring how the law can be used as a tool for systemic change.

Her work has been recognised through numerous awards and honours for her contribution to human rights advocacy and legal reform.

Through her legal practice, writing and public commentary, Jennifer continues to challenge the systems that determine whose voices are heard and whose are silenced, positioning her as one of Australia’s most internationally recognised legal figures.
